Lockdown Birthday (2020)
And just like that he turned 3. Let the lockdown birthday celebrations begin. Luckily for him, he’s too young to realise only Mummy, Daddy and his big brother turned up to his party! He didn’t care, he loved it. This is the first time I think he knew that it was his special day and no one else’s.
The day started off with putting Nanny on zoom so that she can watch him open his presents. This was lovely and we felt like she was really a part of it. Thank god for toy shop deliveries. All his presents came from one shop, much easier than traipsing around Kingston spending a small fortune. Think I might do that from now on, lockdown or no lockdown.
Both having Spring/Summer birthdays we tend to go heavy on outside garden toys for them. We were blessed with some more lovely Spring sunshine so got to test them all out. By far, their favourite (and Daddy’s) was the bubble rocket. Endless hours of self entertainment. Winner. So much so that Daddy ordered a super stomp rocket to be delivered the next day. Boys and their toys.
Kids never get bored of bubbles. Fact. When in doubt, buy more bubble machines, all shapes and sizes and definitely don’t forget to stock up on numerous spare bottles of the stuff. They will go through it so quickly plus tip half of it out anyway.
The night before I slaved away for hours (literally) baking a dinosaur cake. I was actually pretty impressed with the results, he looked happy but didn’t eat ANY of it! Just liked the chocolate decorations apparently. So I scoffed it all over the next few days. Lockdown diet is going well :-)
No birthday party is complete without a game of pass the parcel and pin the tail on the donkey. When did it become obligatory to wrap individual presents, sweets or chocolate in between each layer?! When I was younger (in the last century) we just got excited to open another (empty) layer. The children of today are spoilt I tell you.
We had a great day, nice to ignore the ‘lockdown routine’. He had fun, which was the main thing. Can’t believe the boys are growing up so quickly.
The next lockdown birthday in our household is for yours truly this weekend. A walk in Richmond Park is about as exciting as it’s going to get for me. To be honest that will be lovely especially with the gorgeous weather we are having.
Hope your lockdown birthdays have been as successful and fun as ours.
Stay safe everyone x
